Root Canal Anatomy Project — layered class representatives Source: Prof. Marco A. Versiani / The Root Canal Anatomy Project https://rootcanalanatomy.blogspot.com/2013/06/a-new-microct-based-educational-resource.html The source-labelled maxillary first premolar is represented at #5/#12 and the maxillary second premolar at #4/#13. Source laterality is undocumented. The maxillary second molar (#2/#15) and mandibular third molar (#17/#32) were shown until 2026-10-12 and were then replaced by ACTA-DIRECT v2 teeth 0164 and 0059; their converted, repaired and compiled files remain in the local model archive but are no longer packaged in the app. The text below also records those earlier placements. Each pair contains one class representative and an exact reflected teaching counterpart; neither placement identifies the source specimen's known side. Original VXM files and source masks are preserved. Highest-grid mobile export sampling is retained without upsampling; original scanner resolution is unknown. Enamel/dentin boundaries are density-inferred prototype labels. Matched pulp is the largest connected enclosed void, with finite capped surface ends; accessory/disconnected canals and apical patency are not validated. Separate tissue colors are illustrative. Each tissue uses the same physical coordinate transform and source registration. Apart from the 2026-10-11 re-tier (and, for the retired second molar, the display repair) described below, the two current RCAP classes (#4/#13, #5/#12) and the two retired classes use only changed stored display normals: vertex-area times Gaussian-distance weights, sigma 0.18 mm, radius 0.45 mm, up to 256 neighbors, no angular neighbor weighting/rejection, and a 45-degree change cap. Every non-normal OBJ record remains identical; pulp/canal geometry is unchanged. This reduces terrace shading, softens fine shading, and does not recover detail missing from the coarse source grid. Bounded atlas simplification preserves selected source positions. Original/rejected display alternatives are retained. Reuse status: attributed noncommercial educational use under the source terms. Commercial app redistribution is not established; these are local prototype sources pending any additional permission required for distribution. The retired second-molar source has an open occlusal defect of unverified cause. It is retained in the source meshes. Until 2026-10-12 it was shown at #2/#15, closed by a labelled display repair (2026-10-11) except one small rim region, and not presented as an intact textbook crown. Source review reclassified 7,804 density-confounded crack-wall voxels from dentin to enamel while preserving the measured hard mask, physical voids and pulp exactly. The boundary is inferred, not expert-segmented or histologically validated. Display changes (2026-10-11): for the retired #2/#15 second molar, small detached dentin specks were removed and the occlusal surface over the defect was rebuilt as an inferred surface, with at least 0.5 mm of enamel over smoothed dentin (Tools/Models/repair_scan_display.swift); it is not segmented anatomy. Atlas tiers of the four classes then shown were re-simplified to 12,000 triangles per tissue; the current #4/#13 and #5/#12 keep those tiers. Compiled display archives also carry baked optical attributes and smoothed display normals. The source meshes are unchanged.
